A yearlong study of yoga—and the craft of learning to teach it.
STUDY
JAN-MAY
BUILD THE FOUNDATION
Learn the history, philosophy, anatomy and methodology behind the practice. Study deeply. Ask better questions. Begin learning how to teach.
LIVE
JUN-AUG
IMMERSE YOURSELF
Step away from the classroom and into your own practice.
Observe, read, reflect, practice teaching and let what you’ve learned begin to settle.
TEACH
SEP-NOV
LEARN TO RESPOND
Return ready to apply what you know. Work with real students, different bodies and different needs as you develop your voice and prepare for your final practicum.
This training has roots.
For years, Balance has been educating yoga teachers who have gone on to teach throughout the South Shore. Today, that foundation continues with a faculty whose collective education includes thousands of hours of advanced training, years of teaching experience, and expertise across philosophy, anatomy, somatics, sequencing, accessibility, prenatal yoga, meditation and more.
This training continues to evolve.
We believe teacher training should stay deeply connected to the roots of yoga while responding to what we understand now about bodies, nervous systems, accessibility, language and the responsibility of teaching people.
You’ll study the tradition. You’ll learn to see the person in front of you. And you’ll weave the two together in a way that is thoughtful, informed and entirely your own.

No. Some people enter teacher training knowing they want to teach, while others come because they want to understand yoga more deeply. Both are welcome. You’ll learn the skills required to teach, but the training is just as much an opportunity to deepen your own practice and understanding of yoga.
No. You do not need to be able to do advanced postures or have a certain type of practice to participate. We ask that you come with an open mind, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. Throughout the training, we’ll explore variation, individual anatomy and different ways of approaching postures rather than working toward one ideal shape.
There are no regularly scheduled in-person training sessions from June through August. Instead, you’ll move into Summer Sadhana—a period of independent practice, observation, reading, reflection and practice teaching designed to give you time to integrate what you learned during the first half of the year before returning in September.
Life happens. If you need to miss a session, you’ll be responsible for completing the assigned make-up work for that module. Specific attendance requirements and make-up procedures will be reviewed at the beginning of the program.
To receive your Balance Studio 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate of Completion, you must complete the required training hours, four Vinyasa class observations, four hours of Seva, nine community teaching classes, assigned coursework and the final teaching practicum.
Yes. Balance Studio’s 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training is credentialed by both Yoga Alliance and the American Yoga Council. Upon successful completion of all training and graduation requirements, graduates will receive their 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training certification.
